Why it's built this way
Words are taught in corpus-frequency order and scheduled by FSRS-7 (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), which targets your chosen retention rate. Review prompts ask you to produce the word from its meaning — retrieval practice transfers to real use. Personas are instructed to elicit self-correction (prompts) rather than silently recasting errors, and to weave your due words into conversation.

Placement test
About 8 quick rounds of 4 words. The test binary-searches the frequency list to find where your vocabulary runs out.
Only mark a word if you could actually explain or use it — guessing just inflates your placement with words you can't read.
Do you know these words?
answer all four — the next round appears automatically · 1 know 2 don't, top to bottom

Paused words
Words that kept slipping pause themselves instead of eating your review time. Each returns on its own — as a fresh card, with an example sentence for context — once you've learned 300 more words around it.
